The Cove is a new 60-unit, 50,000-square-foot, mixed-used building in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.
The design incorporates several water-inspired features, such as undulating metal siding and a large fish tank that can be seen from the street.
Sitting on just 9,000 square feet, Cove was made to be efficient and sustainable. To achieve maximum square footage, the layout uses interlocking units that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.
The ground floor combines micro-retail and a larger retail space, with the residential lobby and mezzanine.
Sustainable materials include bamboo siding and solar panels.
Cove has a LEED platinum certification, with systems that allow residents to achieve energy savings up to 30 percent.
Residents share a 3,000-square-foot green roof, with seating and vegetation. Awnings at the retail level use plants to filter stormwater.
Units have large turn-and-tilt windows, that are triple-paned to reduce noise and energy costs. Efficient toilets, low-flow showerheads, low-flow faucets, and high-efficiency appliances help reduce indoor water use by 45 percent.
