Awards for Design Demonstration Projects, now on display at Seafirst Gallery in Columbia Center, will be announced at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 in the gallery. A reception will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The projects will be selected by an interdisciplinary jury representing the Office of the Mayor, Seattle Department of Construction and Land Use, Seattle City Council, neighborhood groups, architects, real estate developers and building professionals. The award winners, to be announced by Mayor Paul Schell and Seattle City Councilmember Peter Steinbrueck, will be assisted by the city through the design review and permitting process. Submittals to the program represent real projects that push the envelope of codes, financing and other factors that restrict the creation of affordable housing in Seattle neighborhoods. On Sept. 17, projects selected for award will be presented by project team members and considered by a panel, including jury members and others.
