Continental Savings Bank

Continental Savings Bank officials say they are revolutionizing the way home buyers obtain financing with the bank's Internet Home Loan Program. With IHeLP, customers can lock in an interest rate at any time online and save up to $1,000 compared with the traditional method of obtaining financing, according to a bank press release.

Here's how the program works:

A customer completes the application online at http://www.continentalsavings.com. The bank contacts the customer to collect a $530 deposit by credit card to cover the cost of a credit report, appraisal and title check. The next day, the customer receives the loan packet, which includes paperwork to be signed and returned in three days. Once the appraisal is reviewed and final approval obtained, the closing documents will be generated and forwarded to a settlement agent for signing and closing.

Waste Management to sell assets to Republic

HOUSTON (Dow Jones News) -- Waste Management Inc. said Monday it agreed to sell landfills and other assets to Republic Services Inc. for about $500 million cash and properties. Waste Management, based in Houston, hauls trash for municipal, commercial and residential customers in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. It has annual revenue of more than $3 billion. Republic, based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., operates non-hazardous waste collection and disposal services in 28 states. The company was spun off earlier this year from Republic Industries Inc., the investment vehicle of Florida businessman H. Wayne Huizenga. The sale will fulfill the terms of a consent decree that federal antitrust regulators required before permitting Waste Management Inc. to merge with USA Waste Services Inc. last July in a deal valued at $19.13 billion. The assets, which have annual revenue of about $275 million, include 16 landfills, 11 transfer stations and 136 commercial collection routes. The companies expect to complete the transaction before the end of the year.
