On the Block: Sound Transit wants affordable housing at Angle Lake Station

How would you like to live near the airport? No, really. Think about it: Sound Transit owns surplus land at Angle Lake Station (at 19955 28th Ave. S.), which is only one stop and four minutes south of SeaTac/Airport Station. It makes perfect sense. And you don't have to work at the airport to appreciate the convenience: about 42 minutes to downtown Seattle. One day, possibly in 2030, you'll even be able to take light rail to Tacoma.

Sound Transit is already helping to create affordable housing on its properties at Capitol Hill Station, Roosevelt Station and on First Hill, where nonprofit developers are planning over 700 permanently affordable units (more on that below). And it's part of the agency's mission to foster equitable transit-oriented development (TOD) on land leftover from its ongoing expansion of light rail. Most of those scattered sites have been, until very recently, used for construction staging. And more will likely be created as the network pushes north to Everett and south to Tacoma.
