Description
A public-private project, the Washington State Football/Soccer Stadium and Exhibition Center project began with the approval of Referendum 48 by Washington voters on June 17, 1997 ($300 million public and the difference paid by Paul Allen). First & Goal Inc., a company established by Seahawks owner Paul Allen to manage the development, construction and operation of the Stadium and Exhibition Center, is providing joint funding with the state of Washington.

The Stadium Exhibition Center, Phase I of the project, opened Oct. 30, 1999. The Washington Public Stadium Authority, created as the public owner of the Stadium and Exhibition Center, said the completion of Phase I was on time and on budget. The Exhibition Center offers 325,000 square feet of space, and the adjacent parking garage provides 2,000 parking spaces. Upon total project completion in 2002, the Stadium Exhibition Center will boast 525,000 square feet with 437,000 leasable square feet and will host Seattle events including the Home Show, Boat Show, Car Show, and Christmas in Seattle.

The open-air stadium will boast a natural turf playing surface approved for both professional football and soccer. The seating capacity will be 70,000, with an increased number of restrooms and wheelchair accessible seating.
