Paul S. Diedrich has joined Skilling Ward Magnusson Barkshire Inc. structural and civil engineers. Diedrich specializes in projects requiring a high degree of architectural collaboration, and is currently at work on the Kangbuk Samsung Hospital in Seoul, Korea. Previous projects include the Allen Library Addition at the University of Washington and the Weyerhaeuser Aquatics Center. Adam R. Koczarski has recently joined the firm as a project engineer, and will be involved in both project design and application of emerging computer technologies.

DEA

Brant A. Schweikl has joined David Evans & Associates, Inc. (DEA) as project manager, responsible for design of storm and surface water facilities, road and sanitary systems and general commercial and residential development projects. Marc A. Pudists has been promoted to project manager following receipt of his professional engineering license. He has experience in the design of residential subdivisions, commercial sites, roadways and stormwater facilities. John A. Watson has joined DEA as a designer CAD technician.

UW Computer Fair

The 23rd annual UW Computer Fair will take place on March 19-20 at the UW Seattle Campus. The fair will focus on emerging technologies like Internet service and speech recognition. Bran Ferren, executive vice president for creative technology and research and development for Walt Disney Imagineering, will deliver the keynote address at 11 a.m., March 19, in the HUB Ballroom. Metawave

Redmond-based Metawave Communications Corporation, a provider of products and services to the wireless communications industry, on March 3 announced the formation of Metawave Network Services. The new group will offer engineering and project management services for wireless system implementation. It expands on the work done by Metawave's existing engineering division.

UNICO Properties

In a realignment of its management, UNICO Properties has promoted Allison Delong, Jackie Mallette and Dan Novack as property managers. In the prior arrangement, each had specific areas of responsibility they applied to the entire UNICO portfolio of office buildings, retail stores and restaurants. Now each will be responsible for all property management functions for specific buildings. Delong will manage One Union Square and Two Union Square. Mallette will handle Rainier Square, Rainier Tower, the IBM Building and the Skinner Building; Novack will manage The Financial Center, Puget Sound Plaza and the Cobb Building.

South Sound Entrepreneurs Network

Three recipients of the first Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Awards have been named by Pacific Lutheran University's School of Business. The winners are Jeff Evans, an Olympia resident and college student who is the owner of Simply Magic, a company which performs magic shows for schools, libraries and private parties. Daniel Finley, a high school student in Federal Way, is president of the-view.com, an online web site which researches and reviews electronics hardware. Shane Hardin is a Buckley high school student who runs a network installation business called HARDinSOFT. Each will receive $500. The award goes to high school or college students who are running businesses.

Morrison Knudsen

Chuck Whittlesey has been promoted to director of business development for Morrison Knudsen Corporation. His duties include pursuing intelligence and information that will lead to new business for the company in areas west of the Mississippi and into the Pacific Basin. Whittlesey's office is in Bellevue. He is also area manager for the Northwest. MK is involved in environmental work, heavy construction, transportation, industrial operations, power and mining.
