Microsoft

Expedia.com, Microsoft's online travel planning service, and Washington State Tourism have joined forces to promote travel to Washington. The partnership includes a cooperative print advertising program covering the 13 western states, targeted national publications, and the promotion of Washington destinations on the Expedia.com site. Travelers who use Expedia.com, can enter a sweepstakes to win a free trip in Washington and can directly link to the Tourism Division's site.

FFA

Fletcher Farr Ayotte (FFA) of Portland has added three new members to the staff. Gene Brockmeyer is a project manager specializing in higher education and high technology projects. Paul Falsetto, who is in the process of completing a master of science degree in historic preservation from the University of Oregon, will work as a historic architecture intern at FFA. Eric Hoffman recently joined FFA's interior design department, and is currently working on space needs assessment for the City of Camas and for the City of Portland.

Christopher W. Higgins has joined the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in the Seattle office as an associate. Higgins will concentrate his practice on intellectual property, especially complex patent litigation and Internet information processing standards.

Bernard Development

J. Thomas Bernard, president of Bernard Development Co., has announced the lease of 22,080 square feet in his Preston Industrial Park to BestUse, a medical surplus reseller. BestUse will use office, warehouse and showroom space for its business, which gathers and markets used equipment from area hospitals, medical facilities and laboratories. The industrial park has 300,000 square feet of office, manufacturing, high technology and warehouse space on I-90 at the Preston exit, five miles east of Issaquah.

Metawave

Metawave Communications, a Redmond-based provider of spectrum management systems for wireless networks, has promoted Ray Butler to vice president of engineering and Robert Shuman to vice president of product management. Butler will assume responsibility for hardware, software and systems engineering, overseeing a staff of more than 50. Butler previously served as director of system architecture. Shuman will have responsibility for product strategy, overseeing product definition, development, strategic positioning and product introduction. Shuman previously served as director of digital products.

Darwin Discovery

Darwin Discovery, the pharmaceutical research business division of England's Chiroscience Group, named Robert Cottingham director of scientific computing. Previously, Cottingham was operations director of the Genome Database at Johns Hopkins University. He will be based in Seattle and will focus primarily on gene discovery and coordinating scientific computing across the Cambridge and Seattle operations. This effort is being expanded to encompass all aspects of the gene-to-drug discovery program.

Shelly Julien has joined WRQ as manager of worldwide public relations. Julien will be reposnible for global public relations strategies. Julien formerly worked at Waggener Edstrom Publc Relations. WRQ, based in Seattle, makes software for connecting and managing personal computers on corporate networks.

Holaday-Parks

Holaday-Parks Inc. has added three new employees to its Engineering Department. They include: Michael Cook, who is assigned to a kitchen remodel project at the University of Puget Sound and tenant improvement engineering at 600 Broadway in Seattle; David Morse III, who is working on the Woodinville shopping center project and assisting with engineering for a job with SeaMed in Bothell; and Jeff Butler, who is providing CAD support to the engineering group.
