Q. How might the Christmas season be different if Santa and his reindeer tried traveling at the speed of light, or even beyond?
A. You'd think Santa really could do the job of reaching every house in one night, since travel time from the North Pole to even Key West would only be 1/40th of a second, says astronomer Bob Berman, author of “Zoom: How Everything Moves.” Unfortunately, going at even just under light speed would increase Santa's mass, something he already worries about. In fact, he'd outweigh the entire galaxy, and so would each of the reindeer.
