Bretz

Timothy G. Bretz joined HDJ Design Group as its third principal, filling the vacancy created by Brian Hoppers' retirement. Bretz will be in the Pasco office as an operations principal helping to grow business in eastern Washington. He is a contractor and has 30-plus years of civil engineering and construction experience, including in residential and commercial development, public works, construction management and surveying. He also has experience in project development finance and has been an owner's expert witness.

Jacobs Associates engineering firm promoted Jeremy Johnson in the Seattle office to lead associate. He has 15 years of experience in geotechnical, civil, and environmental engineering. He has done geotechnical and structural engineering analyses for projects that include the Fremont Siphon.

WHPacific

WHPacific hired Gail Hedden as human resources business partner, supporting employees in the Alaska and Oregon offices. She has more than 18 years of experience in human resources in industries that include software, retail and civil engineering and in venture capital. WHPacific provides architecture, building engineering, land development, landscape architecture, surveying, scanning and water resources.

The Blueline Group

The Blueline Group hired Katy Mitrofanov as a planning coordinator. Mitrofanov has more than five years of planning experience on residential, commercial, and public works projects. Blueline provides civil engineering and land use planning.

Jensen Maritime Consultants

Scott Ward joined Jensen Maritime Consultants as a naval architect in the new office in New Orleans. He has experience in design review, project management and operations, and previously worked at American Bureau of Shipping. Jensen is headquartered in Seattle.

Otak promoted Kevin Timmins and Doug Sarkkinen to principal. The following were promoted to associate: Mark Shelby, Windi Shapley, Jack Seeds, Keith Buisman, Ian Fabik, Sadie Reiter, Will Lawrence, Alejandra Gonzales and Niko Vujevic. Timmins is a senior water resources engineer with 13 years at the firm. He has been project manager on public projects in Oregon and Washington, including the East Lents floodplain restoration in Portland. Sarkkinen is a senior structural engineer. He has 24-plus years of experience that includes concrete structures and bridges, among them two pedestrian suspension bridges in Olympic National Park. He is also a forensic and expert witness. Shelby is a landscape architect and urban designer. He has 20-plus years of experience that includes streetscape and park design, multifamily and senior housing, master planning, hotel planning and commercial development. Shapley is a project engineer with 12 years of experience that includes design and permitting, and project management. Seeds is a project surveyor with more than 18 years of land surveying experience. Buisman is a civil engineer with nine years of experience, including on master planned residential communities, mixed-use and multifamily projects, and infrastructure planning. Fabik is a project engineer with nine years of engineering experience with an emphasis on design and construction document preparation for transportation projects. Reiter is an engineering technician who has 20-plus years of experience and does CAD management and prepares construction documents. Lawrence is a land surveyor who provides field survey and technical support. Gonzales is an architect with seven years of experience in architectural design, construction documentation and project management. Vujevic is an urban planner with four years in management and seven years in planning, including several large-scale master planning projects. Gonzales and Vujevic work in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The other people promoted work in Washington and Oregon. Otak provides engineering, urban design, architecture and planning.

KPFF Consulting Engineers

Ciolko

KPFF Consulting Engineers promoted Adrian Ciolko to associate. Ciolko joined the civil/structural group in 2011 to launch the Chicago office, which assesses the safety and vulnerability of transportation structures and facilities. Previously, he led a bridge consulting unit and a structural engineering lab for CTL. KPFF is a civil and structural engineering firm with offices in Washington and elsewhere.
