Today's class is in Bail Jumping 101.
In early May 2002, Larry Stout got in trouble with the law. Facing felony drug charges in Pierce County Superior Court, his bail was set at $50,000. Since Stout apparently didn't have that much cash lying around, he contracted with a bail bondsman to have a $50,000 bail bond posted with the court. (To obtain a bail bond, the defendant pays a nonrefundable deposit, usually about 10 percent of the bail amount, while the bail bondsman puts up the rest.)
