Leacy

Kacie Leacy has returned to JayRay in Tacoma after working with the Seattle digital agency Rational Interaction on marketing and demand-generation campaigns, including social media. She will be an advisor and digital strategist for online advertising, content strategy, social media marketing and search advertising.

KuKuRuZa Gourmet Popcorn

Grant Jones, owner of KuKuRuZa Gourmet Popcorn in Seattle, has been named this state's U.S. Small Business Administration Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Jones and his wife, Ashley, opened their first popcorn store in Bellevue in 2009 and have opened 16 stores since, including three in the Seattle area and 12 overseas.

Itron

Itron, Inc. in Liberty Lake said John Holleran, executive vice president and chief operating officer, will leave at the end of the year and a search has started for candidates to fill the position. Holleran joined Itron in 2007 as senior vice president and general counsel.

UW Medicine

Carena, a telemedicine provider, said UW Medicine is one of four new health system partners that will provide 24/7 care via phone, tablet or computer to a total of 13 million people. The virtual clinics connect patients with board-certified clinicians, with fees that range from free to approximately $50.

Nordic Heritage Museum

Nordic Heritage Museum's collection manager, Fred Poyner IV, won the 2015 AKCHO Virginia Marie Folkins Award for historical publications with his recent book, “The First Sculptor of Seattle: the Life and Art of James A. Wehn.”

Perkins Coie

Perkins Coie said Dr. Lucrezia Colonna, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Rheumatology/Medicine at University of Washington, received the $20,000 Perkins Coie 2015 Award for Discovery for her work in the prevention of lupus autoimmunity. Lupus affects more than 5 million patients worldwide and there is no definitive treatment. Perkins Coie's grants honor innovation and creativity.

Blue Box

Blue Box, a Seattle-based provider of cloud solutions, has opened a London cloud data center. TelecityGroup is its data center partner in London. This expands Blue Box to four locations: Seattle, Ashburn (Virginia), Zurich and London. Steve Charnock has been hired as commercial director EMEA for Blue Box.

King County

Executive Dow Constantine appointed Sheila Capestany to head Best Starts for Kids, a new initiative that would put a six-year levy on the November ballot to fund prevention and early intervention programs. The levy would cost the average homeowner about $56 a year. Capestany has worked with diverse communities and with government, social services, public health and education groups. She will also lead the County Council's Youth Action Plan.

Northwest Protective Service

Universal Protection Service of Santa Ana, California, said it has purchased three companies in Northwest Protective Service, which provides security officer, patrol and alarm response services. NW Protective employs 500 people and has offices in Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane and Yakima, as well as Portland. It serves clients with office, retail, marine/port and mixed-use properties. Peggy J. Cameron is chairman. The 75-year-old company was founded by her father, Anthony E. Mandery, and the leadership team now is headed by Randy Neely. Universal has four divisions: Universal Protection Service, Universal Building Maintenance, Universal Protection Security Systems and Universal Fire/Life Safety Services.
