Madrona Venture Labs

Madrona Venture Group named Mike Fridgen the new CEO of Madrona Venture Labs, a Seattle startup studio founded in 2014. Labs has created and spun out two companies and plans to double its staff of product managers, engineers and designers to help startups grow. Fridgen co-founded several companies including Farecast and Decide, which he sold to eBay. He was general manager of eBay's 400-person Seattle office.

Symetra Life Insurance

Symetra Life Insurance named Paul Mistretta senior vice president and chief operations officer of the Individual Life Division. He will be based in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Hub International

Chicago-based Hub International Limited, a global insurance brokerage, has acquired the assets of Employee Benefits Group in Spokane. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. EBG specializes in employee benefits for mid-size and large companies such as self-funded health plans. Marsha Allen will join Hub Northwest and report to Tim Kennedy, EB practice leader for Hub Northwest.

Klinedinst

Klinedinst law firm has opened an office at 801 Second Ave. in downtown Seattle, representing business clients in litigation and transactional matters. The office is led by Gregor A. Hensrude. Klinedinst started in 1983 in San Diego, and has nearly 70 attorneys in four offices in California.

Workforce Development Council

The Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County said this is one of nine communities to get grants up to $700,000 for programs to help youth. The Performance Partnership Pilots for Disconnected Youth is a collaboration of six federal agencies. Money will fund a pilot project to develop a youth employment system in Seattle-King County.

Seattle Repertory Theatre

Seattle Repertory Theatre said Arlene Martinez-Vazquez has been hired as director of education. She moved to Seattle in 2009 and has worked as a teaching artist at Seattle Public Theater, Stone Soup Theatre, Lakeside School, Seattle Children's Theatre and Seattle Repertory Theatre. She was education director at Stone Soup.

Stokes Lawrence

Whitney Hicks has joined Stokes Lawrence's Financial Services Practice and will work on commercial lending. She was with Opus Law Group and DLA Piper.

Essential Building Technologies

Essential Building Technologies of Vancouver has joined forces with Sunbelt Controls, which specializes in environmental controls for commercial buildings in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado and Texas. Sunbelt Controls will service all major building automation system manufacturers.
