Pierce County Parks and Recreation

Roxanne E. Miles has been named director of Pierce County Parks and Recreation, starting July 17. Miles joined the county in 2016 as business and financial operations manager for the Planning and Public Works Department. She also worked for Metro Parks Tacoma, where she managed parks and recreation services, and led major planning initiatives. Miles will be accountable for teams that maintain over 4,200 acres at 50 sites, including recreation centers, a sports complex, ice rink, skateboard park, boat launches, golf courses, trails and open spaces.

Bartell Drugs

Bartell Drugs, the 127-year-old Northwest-based chain, will have a new store in Arlington, at the corner of Highway 9 and 204th Street. The 14,622-square-foot store is slated to break ground this summer and open in the first quarter of 2018. Two more stores will open this summer in Green Lake and Snoqualmie Ridge.

Cairncross and Hempelmann

The Seattle law firm Cairncross and Hempelmann said Traci Shallbetter has joined the firm, focusing on complex real estate and land use transactions for local and national clients in acquisition, development and disposition. She is an expert in easements, covenants and land use permitting.

Washington Dental Service Foundation

Washington Dental Service Foundation is changing its name to Arcora Foundation. It was founded and funded by nonprofit Delta Dental of Washington, a dental benefits company. Arcora Foundation focuses on demonstration projects, training and expanding access to care.

NetFortris, a secure cloud communication firm, has appointed COO Kevin Dickens and CFO Gene Carr as co-CEOs, replacing Grant Evans who will remain on the board of directors. NetFortris has headquarters in Seattle and Plano, Texas. It provides scalable, cloud-based voice and data communications.

Centerstage Theatre Arts Conservatory

Centerstage Theatre Arts Conservatory named actor/director and Federal Way resident Trista Duval as interim artistic director. Duval will replace retiring Artistic Director Alan Bryce. She was arts director at Overcomer Church in Federal Way. Centerstage is Federal Way's resident professional theatre company, founded in 1977.

Pioneer Square Labs

Sandler

Pioneer Square Labs, a Seattle-based startup studio, said Julie Sandler is joining the organization as a managing director, along with directors Greg Gottesman, Mike Galgon and Geoff Entress. Sandler was a partner at Madrona Venture Group, a Seattle-based venture capital firm. Since its inception 18 months ago, PSL has spun out six companie and has a entrepreneur-in-residence program. She is adjunct faculty at the University of Washington Foster School of Business. She also worked on Amazon's Kindle and for Accenture.

Lewis & Clarks

The former president of Portland State University, Wim Wiewel, will become the new president of Lewis & Clark College in Portland. Wiewel was at PSU for nine years and starts the new job Oct. 1.
