Special to the Journal
At last we can state that our region's long-held goal of being non-dependent on Boeing has been achieved. This last decade's high technology business growth in our state has seen us through a very slack economic period and has enabled us to avoid a fully fledged recession. Job growth in this period, although very modest, kept on the plus side, resulting in an average 1.2 percent gain per year, and rising to 1.9 percent in 1995. This year, the turning point, may achieve 3 or more percent and we may see 4 plus percent in 1997.
