The Eugene Airport air cargo building was awarded LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The $3.1 million building was part of a $6.2 million upgrade that included the aircraft ramp area and other infrastructure needed on the south end of the airfield. It is home to Horizon Air Cargo, Lawrence Air Service and several air cargo shipping companies.
The facility is metal construction with separate office and warehouse space for air-cargo operators. A land-side truck dock, parking lot and access road are also part of the warehouse facility.
Funding for construction of the 11,000-square-foot building came from a ConnectOregon grant, a Federal Aviation Administration grant and Eugene Airport funds.
It is the first LEED-certified building constructed by the city of Eugene.
Sustainable elements include a 17 percent reduction in total energy use through increased insulation, high reflectivity roofing and efficient HVAC systems.
Water use will be reduced by 35 percent through low-flow plumbing fixtures. The building also has low-emitting sealants, paints, adhesives and carpets.
Owner: Eugene Airport, city of Eugene, Ore.
Architect: M & H Architecture, Eugene, Ore.
General contractor: Essex General Construction, Eugene, Ore.
Green building consultant: Green Building Services, Portland
