Nordstrom to open free-standing spa

SEATTLE -- Nordstrom Inc. announced yesterday it will open its first free-standing day spa at The Shops at North Bridge in Chicago.

Spa Nordstrom is scheduled to open in spring 2003. The 3,500-square-foot spa will be located near the third floor entrance of the Michigan Avenue Nordstrom store.

The first Spa Nordstrom opened in San Francisco in 1988. When the John Buck Co. approached the retailer with the idea of leasing space within the shopping center for a spa, Nordstrom agreed.

The retailer currently operates nine full service in-store spas, including locations in Dallas, New York, San Francisco, Atlanta and downtown Seattle.
