Seattle is looking at a variety of ways to make pedestrians safer, but John Moffatt, regional administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said re-engineering streets to make people drive the desired speeds would help a lot.
Moffatt's ideas are being considered by the Seattle Pedestrian Advisory Board, the citizens panel responsible for writing the city's Pedestrian Master Plan. The plan will be developed over the next two years, looking at ways to increase walking and decrease accidents.
