JBDG adds solar array to its office

Seattle-based architecture firm Johnson Braund Design Group says it has installed one of the largest privately funded solar arrays in the state to help power its office. The firm will also use the site as a lab, and as a marketing and educational piece for clients. The 10-kilowatt project sits along Interstate 5 and was completed about two weeks ago.

The 48 solar panels are nearly 850 square feet wide and generate 10 megawatt hours of electricity each year. It stems from JBDG’s decision to reduce its energy consumption at least 50 percent by year-end. The firm hopes the solar array will generate about 25 percent of its power. The company has also installed an efficient heating and cooling system.

Solar Electric Systems installed the project. The array is available for tours during regular business hours at 15200 52nd Ave S. in Seattle.
