$110M upgrade makes Hawaii's 'Pink Palace' more hip, less pink

    The 528-room Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu is closed for seven months while it undergoes a $110 million upgrade. Rates will average in the high $400-a-night range when it reopens Jan. 1.

    HONOLULU — The last time this iconic pink hotel was closed for renovations, World War II had just ended and the barbed wire that stretched along the shore of Waikiki had been removed.
