Mayor wants to expand townhouse design review

  • City officials want more of a say in the look of new construction.

    Mayor Nickels held a press conference in front of this Capitol Hill townhouse, in the 400 block of Federal Avenue East, saying design elements such as lots of windows and lower fences make it fit better in the neighborhood. The townhouses did not go through design review when they were built in 2006.

    The city of Seattle could soon require that every new townhouse go through design review.
