Light rail on I-90 bridge gets a preliminary OK

An independent review team hired by the state to review the feasibility of putting light rail on the Interstate 90 floating bridge has given its preliminary approval to the idea. Sound Transit agreed to a package of mitigation measures recommended by the team.

The team includes structural engineer Chuck Ruth of SC Solutions in Lacey, corrosion expert Ali Akbar Sohanghpurwala of Concorr in Sterling, Va., floating bridge expert Thomas Bringloe of Glosten Associates in Seattle, and Steve Nikolakakos of Russell Corrosion in Garden City, N.Y., who is an expert on stray current. The team made a presentation to the state legislature's Joint Transportation Committee yesterday.
