ZDS designs Birch Bay homes

Seattle-based ZDS Architects has been hired by FW Bovenkamp Ventures to design a variety of houses for the Horizon at Semiahmoo resort in Blaine. Horizon is a 185-acre master planned, sustainable community on Birch Bay.

ZDS will design houses for 27 lots. Buyers can choose between four different floor plans and roofs, along with different interior and exterior options. The houses ZDS designs will be called the Bay Collection and will range from 1,560 to 1,955 square feet. Prices begin at $605,000 for the house and lot, and will be sold through Horizon at Semiahmoo.

The homes will be sited to take advantage of south-facing coastal views and maximize natural lighting. They will meet LEED for homes certification, as well as comply with Built Green and Energy Star.

Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects created design guidelines for the entire project, which will be constructed in a number of phases. When complete, the resort will have 677 housing units and 100,000 square feet of commercial space.

OSKA was originally going to design houses for the entire project, and is still designing homes in two other sections of the community, the Coastal Collection and the Pacific Collection. Prices for those homes begin at $890,000 and $934,000 respectively.

The builder is TopLine Builders. Horizon at Semiahmoo is about five minutes away from Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club, and has no relationship with that property.
