European process speeds Oregon bridge replacement

  • “Bridge jacking” cut the time the span was closed from six months to six days.
  • ELKTON, Ore. (AP) — In the wilds near Oregon's Coast Range the new Elkton Bridge that carries Oregon 38 over Elk Creek looks like any other highway span.

    But it was completed using a method uncommon in the United States called “bridge jacking,” a method of replacement that cuts the time the spans are closed from six months to six days.
