Townhouses: 'The bar is just way too low'

  • Seattle architects say a flexible design review process will help rid the city of the dreaded four-pack.

    This project at 19th Avenue and East Pine Street went through design review and construction was completed this fall. The firm b9 architects designed seven homes around a central pedestrian courtyard, with parking behind. Developer and builder was Graham Black of gProjects.

    Architect David Neiman knows from experience that Seattle's design review process is far from perfect. But he thinks requiring design review is still Seattle's best shot at getting townhouses that don't make neighbors cringe.
