KCHA gets $3M for training centers

Renderings by ARC Architects [enlarge]

King County Housing Authority will use a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to build or expand education and job training centers at three public housing complexes.

The projects are at Firwood Circle and Burndale Homes in Auburn, and Valli Kee Homes in Kent, shown above.

ARC Architects designed the complexes, and construction should start by year's end. No contractor has been selected.

The projects are estimated to cost $3.4 million.

The Firwood community center will be renovated and expanded to 3,366 square feet; a new 3,563-square-foot center will be constructed at Burndale; and a new 4,330-square-foot center will replace a multipurpose community room at Valli Kee.

HUD awarded a total of $34 million in grants to 10 public housing authorities for similar projects.
