Dwell Development said it costs about $25 a month to heat this 1,750-square-foot house.

Seattle-based Dwell Development won an award from the Master Builders Association of King County for designing and building sustainable small production houses in the city.

Dwell was one of two winners of the 2010/2011 Built Green Hammer Award, which recognizes projects and people for innovative green building practices.

Built Green homes are designed to be comfortable, durable, environmentally friendly and cost-effective to own. They are constructed to exceed building codes for energy and water use.

The Dwell home pictured here is at 26th Avenue South and South King Street in the Central District. It is one of the small production series for which Dwell won the award.

The firm said heating costs for this 1,750-square-foot, three-bedroom house are about $25 a month. An air sealant was sprayed on the interior and large amounts of insulation were installed. Dwell said this creates a house with fewer leaks than a traditional home.

Dwell said the house quickly sold for $488,850 in October of 2010 and had multiple offers.
