City gearing up to start building ‘swale on Yale'

  • The $10.2 million system will treat 190 million gallons of stormwater every year that flows off of Capitol Hill.

    Swales will look like small gardens located between the sidewalk and the street. They will be filled with special plants and soils that filter pollutants from stormwater.

    The city of Seattle is evaluating bids from contractors for building the first section of a long-planned stormwater system known as the “swale on Yale.”
