Architects create castles for charity

Each year local architecture firms and trade associations work with the culinary team at Sheraton Seattle Hotel to design, bake and build gingerbread creations as a fundraiser for the Northwest chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.

This year DLR Group, MulvannyG2 Architecture, Callison, Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties, 4D Architects and Weber Thompson came up with six fairy tale-inspired castles.

The creations are on display at the hotel at 1400 Sixth Ave. until Jan. 1. Visitors can vote for their favorites.

The event is free, but donations to the JDRF are encouraged. Gingerbread Village has raised more than $500,000 for JDRF in the past 19 years.
