Gingerbread Village raises $68,570

Visitors to Gingerbread Village at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel donated $68,570, to the Northwest chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, organizers said.

Each year local architecture firms and trade associations work with the hotel's culinary team to design, bake and build gingerbread creations for the December fundraiser.

Six castles were designed by DLR Group, MulvannyG2 Architecture, Callison, Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties, 4D Architects and Weber Thompson.

Visitors picked the winner: Brothers Grimm Castle of Fairy Tales, which was created by 4D Architects and Chef Jay Sardeson, with help from eight-year-old Rylee Stark, who is a Type 1 diabetic.
