PORTLAND (AP) — Eight southwest Washington lawmakers have shipped a letter to the U.S. Coast Guard, asking it to require a much higher clearance for the proposed Columbia River bridge.
The letter to Rear Adm. Keith Taylor, commander of the 13th Coast Guard District, says the proposed clearance of 116 feet is not enough to accommodate some current waterway users and will thwart future growth. Rep. Paul Harris of Vancouver on Wednesday cited Greenberry Industries and Thompson Metal Fab as two companies that would be hurt by the proposed clearance.
