Olson Kundig Architects of Seattle designed a recent exhibit at Sonos Studio in Los Angeles for the 75th anniversary of the jazz label Blue Note Records.
“Born in Blue: remixed and reissued” was a tribute to Blue Note and record collecting in the 21st century.
Alan Maskin and Blair Payson of Olson Kundig designed the exhibit, which expanded on the idea of a reimagined record shop that was originally conceived for [storefront], Olson Kundig's experimental space in Seattle.
The Los Angeles exhibit used an assembly of plywood album crates that could be reconfigured for different performances or events.
Blue Note album artwork by artists Phil Bicker, Letman, Shadrach Lindo was “remixed.”
Olson Kundig said Maskin and Payson have done other exhibit installations that fuse art and architecture.
