Exhibit focuses on playscape design

Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam creates large, interactive textile environments such as this play area at a park in Hokkaido, Japan.

AIA Seattle will present a free exhibit titled “Extraordinary Playscapes” from July 13 through Sept. 2 at 1010 Western Ave. in Seattle.

The exhibit examines the importance of play and the latest thinking about playground design, from towering treetop paths to hand-knit crochet playgrounds.

Family Fun Day is set for July 15 from 11 to 4 p.m., with games, a photo booth, a Seattle Design Nerds installation, and a drawing station where people can design their dream playground. There will also be an outdoor play area in Post Alley. Light refreshments will be provided.
