Designers start to see waste as a raw material: ‘We’re in the brink of a materials revolution’

  • Designers are using recycled plastic to make bolts and screws, turning old newspaper into bricks, and fashioning benches out of pine needles.

    IKEA has partnered with Stockholm studio Form Us With Love for the Kungsbacka range of kitchen cabinetry, made of recycled plastic bottles and reclaimed industrial wood.

    The Earth is awash in garbage, and designers of home decor are looking at ways to reuse the waste. Among the many clever ideas emerging are tiles made out of blue jeans, and furniture made out of bottles.
