The U.S. Green Building Council, which oversees certification of LEED projects, has released its annual list of the Top 10 States for LEED.

HKP Architects said the competition was so close that the council also ranked the next five states to recognize significant strides that have been made in local markets. Washington ranks 11th.

The projects cited included The Perry Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences, which HKP designed.

The LEED silver center is owned operated by Bellingham Technical College. It includes daylighting control, natural ventilation strategies, 98 percent landfill diversion, local and natural materials, and 12 percent recycled content materials.
