AIA Project of the Month: North Cascades center lives up to its promises

An open, outdoor corridor leads to buildings on different levels. By accommodating the natural topography, the Northwest Cascades Environmental Learning Center lives lightly on the land.

Designing with nature brings a special gravity to basic architectural decisions. As architect David Hall puts it, “You either build into the land or on the land or above it.”
