Starbucks sued for disabled access

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Two people have sued the Starbucks coffee chain, claiming that four of its Cleveland-area stores are inaccessible to the handicapped.

John Somrak of Fairview Park, who is paralyzed from the waist down from a spinal cord injury at work, and Stacey Lang, of Avon Lake, who has multiple sclerosis, filed the lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

They alleged that Starbucks outlets in Cleveland and suburban Westlake, North Olmsted and Rocky River lacked ramps and adequate parking for the handicapped and violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The lawsuit asked that the matter be made a class-action on behalf of other people allegedly denied access to Starbucks.

A company spokeswoman said she had not seen the lawsuit but the Seattle-based company works to comply with federal laws for the disabled.
