SEATTLE -- A Tacoma light rail car will be on display at downtown Seattle's Westlake Park through Feb. 21. The light rail car, built by Skoda of the Czech Republic, is similar to those used by Portland's streetcar system.
Sound Transit's 1.6-mile Tacoma Link project, connecting the Tacoma Dome with downtown, is scheduled to open this September.
The 66-foot, double-articulated car will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m on weekdays and from noon to 6 p.m. on weekends. Though in Seattle, Sound Transit plans to use a different type of light rail vehicle capable of higher speeds.
The $62,000 cost of moving and displaying the car will come from Sound Transit's marketing budget. Sponsors, including Otak architects, LTK Engineering Services and Puget Sound Transit Consultants, are expected to defray up to 30 percent of the cost.
