RENTON -- Alex Pietsch was named the administrator for Renton's Economic Development, Neighborhoods and Strategic Planning Department yesterday, replacing Sue Carlson.

Pietsch is a Seattle native and former Yakima TV journalist who worked in public relations for the Seattle office developer Wright Runstad & Co. before he became Carlson's assistant in Renton in July 2001.

Carlson left the city last October to work for Kent Valley private developer Mario Segale. The city named Pietsch as Carlson's acting replacement and yesterday gave Pietsch the job. His pay starts at $96,876 per year.

"This position is critical to the city's economic health," said Mayor Jesse Tanner. "We decided we could not find a better candidate if we had conducted a nation-wide search."
