ST. LOUIS (Dow Jones/AP) -- Boeing Co. and Insitu Group signed a contract to begin production on the ScanEagle autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle.
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
In a news release, the companies said the deal, with the potential of up 10 years, follows a 15-month agreement they began last February to develop a prototype UAV based on Insitu's Seascan miniature robotic aircraft.
Since the initial contract last year, three ScanEagle prototypes have completed more than 50 test flights, according to the companies.
Insitu Group, located in Klickitat County, makes miniature robotic aircraft for commercial and military applications.
