SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- Fairfield Resorts Inc. will close its Salem call center in October and terminate about 200 workers as a result of the new National Do Not Call Registry, company officials said.
The Orlando, Fla.-based company, which sells vacation time shares at resort properties over the phone, opened the Salem center 18 months ago.
The registry, which allows consumers to register their telephone numbers and avoid telemarketers, means less work for telephone salespeople.
More than 30 million Americans have signed up, the Federal Trade Commission said Wednesday.
