Amazon sets up sporting goods shop

SEATTLE (Dow Jones/AP) -- Amazon.com Inc. Monday launched a new sporting-goods store.

The Internet retailer said it has deals with leading sporting-goods merchants to offer more than 3,000 brands covering more than 50 sports.

After starting as a book store, Amazon has added clothes, toys, electronics, tools and other products.

Shares of Amazon closed Monday at $47.47, down 11 cents, on the Nasdaq Stock Market. The stock reached a 52-week high of $48.24 on Thursday.
