WeyCo settles bias case for $256,000

SEATTLE (AP) -- Weyerhaeuser Co. has agreed to pay nearly $256,000 to settle findings by the U.S. Labor Department that a Bellevue plant discriminated against qualified minority applicants, the department said Monday.

Weyerhaeuser inherited the discrimination case at the Corrugated Packaging Plant as part of its acquisition of Willamette Industries.

The agreement settles the department's allegations that the company failed to offer minority applicants equal opportunities for general laborer positions at the plant.
