U.S. mall developer sees huge demand in Macau

  • The Chinese city just surpassed the Las Vegas Strip as the world's center of casino gambling.

    HONG KONG — Taubman Centers Inc., one of America's biggest shopping mall developers, was skeptical about joining the stampede into the booming Chinese casino city of Macau because of worries too much was being built.

    But now Taubman is a huge believer in the tiny former Portuguese enclave that just surpassed the Las Vegas Strip as the world's center of casino gambling. The company broke ground last month in a joint venture casino-resort project, Macau Studio City, that will include about 750,000 square feet of retail space.
