SEATTLE — Watching Google Inc. rake in advertising revenue “was a wake-up call within Microsoft,” Ray Ozzie, Microsoft Corp.'s chief software architect, said Tuesday. He added that the software maker's plans extend beyond Web-based versions of desktop programs or a one-size-fits-all search.
Ozzie, who has only made a handful of appearances since taking over the architect role from Chairman Bill Gates last June, told analysts and investors at a Goldman Sachs conference in Las Vegas that he has been laying the groundwork for programmers across the company to build Internet-based software.
