Port's response to audit causes Hara 'some angst'

  • Some employees signed letters verifying statements they made to the auditors, but others refused to verify major portions of the letters.

    Several state legislators introduced bills this week aimed at reforming the Port of Seattle following a damning performance audit of the port's contracting practices that was released in December by State Auditor Brian Sonntag.

    The U.S. Justice Department is investigating the port and some state legislators are contemplating revoking its tax authority as a result of the audit, which said the port's contracting practices left it open to fraud, waste and abuse.
