Good news, bad news for ports: more cargo but more competition

Pacific Northwest ports will have to look sharp if they want to get their share of the expected explosion in Asian trade, according to several speakers at the 2008 Northwest Intermodal Conference held in Tacoma this week.

West Coast container volumes are expected to double or even triple by 2025, and Ed DeNike, president of SSA Marine Containers, said “all of this volume has to be fought for.”
