Construction, consumers hurt state's tax revenues

OLYMPIA (AP) — The sagging economy will whack another $530 million from Washington state tax collections, pushing a projected deficit in the next state budget to about $3.2 billion, state analysts reported Thursday.

Economists said sagging consumer spending, particularly on cars, is a major factor. Slack construction employment and a slow recovery in the housing sector also are contributing to the dour economic forecast.
