WSDOT ends lease with rail operator

OLYMPIA — The Washington State Department of Transportation announced last week that will terminate an operating lease with East Washington Gateway Railroad, which operates a branch of the state-owned Palouse River and Coulee City Rail system.

“The decision to terminate the lease was difficult,” said Scott Witt, state rail and marine director. “Unfortunately, the (East Washington Gateway Railroad) encountered unexpected setbacks and costs.”
