CONNELL, Franklin County (AP) — Many of the elderly and ill state prison inmates who were moved out of the Ahtanum View prison in Yakima when it was closed by budget cuts are now in an assisted living unit at the Coyote Ridge prison at Connell.
Superintendent Jeffrey Uttecht said the inmates in the minimum-security unit are serving time for crimes such as murder, rape and drug possession. Many also have long-term illnesses such as diabetes or Alzheimer's.
