SEATTLE (AP) — The state of Washington could pay as much as $475,000 for an outside study of three Transportation Department megaprojects: the Highway 520 floating bridge on Lake Washington, the Highway 99 tunnel under downtown Seattle, and the Interstate 5 bridge across the Columbia River.
The department hired consultant Ron Paananen in March after learning it would have to spend tens of millions of dollars to fix and redesign floating bridge pontoons because of cracking in the first batch produced at Grays Harbor, The Seattle Times (http://bit.ly/10FnNmy ) reported on Monday.
